Every legal job record in Canada is linked to the respective employee’s SIN number. It is really important to know about Uber Eats as well. Employee or business owner has to file a tax at the end of the year on the amount of money they earned.
This post will explain everything that needs to be known in order to follow rules and regulations imposed by the government. Especially, international students should keep this information in their mind.
1. Why it is important to know that Uber Eats Delivery Job is on SIN?
Every job’s income that is on SIN has to be filed in the tax at the end of the financial year. If you work a single job in Canada, then most of the time tax will already be deducted by the time you receive your biweekly payout. In that case, at the end of the financial year, you just have to file the tax and do not need to pay.
Uber Eats is considered self-employment and not a job. And self-employment means business. Therefore, Uber Eats does not cut any tax amount as a normal job does. They give you all the money you made without deducting any tax. But here is a catch, at the end of the financial year, you have to file a tax and show Uber Eats earnings as business profit, after deducting expenses and asset depreciation.
You can’t skip filing Uber Eats income in tax. If you skip it you have to pay a tax and might be fine also because the government will know how much you have made in that year.
At this point, students who are new in Canada may be thinking that why they care whether Uber Eats is on SIN or not. In most cases, everyone in Canada knows how much SIN is important. Keep in mind, in Canada, every activity of an individual like income, amount of worked hours on the job, bank account, and many more such things are associated or linked with SIN (Social insurance Number).
So, the government can track how many hours an individual is working per week or biweekly. Maybe it is not important for people who do not have any restrictions on working hours, unlike international students who have restrictions of working only 20 hours a week while they are on a study permit.
If an international student works more than 20 hours a week then that activity can be tracked by the government and it is a violation of the law. As it is a violation of the rules, further strict action can be taken and resulting in the terminal of the study permit and sending an individual back to their respective country. Therefore, be careful of the rules.
Note: Recently, the government has lifted the rule of 20 hours a week of work for international students. Now, international students in Canada can work full-time, 40 hours a week, while studying.
2. Uber Eats Delivery Job is on SIN in Canada
Of course, the Uber Eats delivery is on SIN. Meaning that every single penny that you have made from Uber Eats will be counted as your business income. International students should not work more than 20 hours a week doing Uber Eats delivery. Many students are working more than 20 hours in Uber Eats but that going to give them trouble, if not now then while applying for a work permit.
Every single working hour in Uber Eats is on SIN. So, the government can track how many hours you work a week. If you are working 10 hours in a different job then you can work only 10 more hours in Uber Eats. Even when you are on scheduled break confirm with the college whether can you work full-time or not.
