Struggling Journey: From 12th Class Student to international student in Canada

In this post, I will be going to share my journey from a 12th pass student in India to a student in Canada. I will discuss every step of my journey from 12th class student to international student Canada. I hope that you will read it till the end. This will give an idea that what you may have to go through in your journey from India to

From the beginning of the 12th standard in India, I have the ambition to go to Canada to pursue my study in computer programming. Many of you also have the same dream of going to Canada to study after 12th standard or after graduation. In my opinion, you should start working upon your dream one day it will turn into reality and you will yourself studying in Canada.

Struggle in the English Language

Same as you, I also had a dream then started to find out the ways using which I can go to Canada. Then I came across the IELTS examination. Of course, before that, I took permission from my parent that I want to go to Canada to study and they agreed.

When got information about IELTS that what syllabus it includes I was a little nervous because I did not have a good command of the English language and IELTS is all about the English language. But I never discouraged myself. I decided that I will study hard and get this IELTS exam cleared.

IELTS Preparation

Then I join the coaching for IELTS which is 30 km far from my home and used to commute there daily to attain the classes. I really worked hard on my English because I did not know the basics of English Grammar even not tenses. I started learning from the basics in coaching, by searching on google and YouTube videos, and by taking help from my friends.

Just keep one thing in mind that never hesitate to ask your coaching teacher or friends because many students think that what the opponent will think when I will ask these low standard doubt questions and the same thought was with me. In starting I was also thinking in the same way but then I realized that most of the students were like me they also did not know some basics that even I knew. From that point, I started asking any doubt to teachers and my friends of coaching.

Tried every method for IELTS preparation

I really used every method so that I can improve myself. I used to practice a lot in all the modules of IELTS. For improving ourselves in speaking, we made a group of 4 friends and we used to speak cue cards in front of each other by setting timer and recorder. It helped me in improving my English speaking. If you are also facing difficulty then make a group of friends and start practicing. In other modules also I used to learn and practice them a lot because practice is a key to success in IELTS more you practice higher the band you will get.

Got desire band after the second trial in IELTS Exam

After 4 months of hard work finally, I decided to take the exam and my exam went well but on result day I got 6.5 bands overall but in the module, I got 5.5 bands. I was very disappointing, and the same thing happens with many students taking IELTS they got well band overall but in any one module, they get 5.5. Then, I decided to study more and after 1 month of hard-core practice, I took an exam date. This time my exam went well and got 7 bands overall and 6 bands in each module. I was on cloud nine.

To select course and college

I had no more time because I was a 12th pass student and I have to go for January Intake and that was already an October month. Suddenly, I consulted one agent and decided to take admission for January intake. Agent gives me a book in which there are lots of colleges in Canada and I was literally confused about which college I should go to.

Then I contacted my brother’s friend who was already in Canada and he suggested Seneca college. Finally, I decided to go to Seneca College and took two years course in computer programming. I took a computer programming course because I was interested in programming. You should choose a course in which you have an interest. Then my agent said to bring some of my documents, and I sent those documents to him. Then he requested Seneca college to accept me as a student and send back an offer letter to us. A month later, I got mail that I was accepted to Seneca college and received an offer letter.

Medical Test and Lodge file

Then I took an appointment at KD hospital, in Ahmedabad, for medical. Then I gave the medical test at the hospital.

After that, my agent lodged a visa file on 11 August 2020, during this horrible pandemic.

Slow visa processing

Due to this pandemic, Canada VFS and IRCC were closed or had less staff and that’s why an assessment of the visa application was too low. IRCC decided to assess the visa applications for September applicants in two stages. In 1st stage, IRCC will assess your documents such as IELTS TRF, passport, etc and in the second stage, they will see the medical, biometric, and criminal records of the applicant. If the applicant passes the 1st stage and gets AIP then the applicant can start learning online at college being in their respective countries. AIP is like the support that there are many chances that our application will get approved but not guaranteed.

Due to slow processing, after 4 months I got the biometric appointment, and I gave my biometric at Canada VFS and it got updated on the same day on my GCKey account. Until late December, there was no two-stage visa application process for January students. But in late December, IRCC announced that the visa application for January intake students will also proceed in two stages.

My college was starting from 11 January 2021 but still 1 January my medical was not updated on my GCKey account. Then, I filled web form on 2 January but not any response. I waited for many days but no updates then my hopes were gone and I was not checking my GCKey account regularly. Many students started taking defer for the next available intake but I stick to January intake because our college refund policy is excellent.

I started attaining online classes on 11 January, but till then I had no update regarding my visa application. On 18 January, I opened my GCKey account for a time pass and saw a new message medical approval. I was a little happy because students were getting AIP whose medical is updated. Today, it is 29 January but still there no update in my GCKey about either AIP or PPR. It does not make sense until we get either AIP or PPR(passport submission request).
